Once again the media and politicians are attacking the town hall protesters in much the same way they did the tea party rallies. Whether it’s the New York Times implying racism through their not-so-subtle observation of protesters being “almost entirely white,” or Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid describing protesters as “evil-mongers.”
Senator Dick Durbin, D-Illinois said, “But this is clearly being orchestrated, and these folks have instructions. They come down from a Texas lobbyist in Washington.” Similar allegations of ‘manufactured’ rallies have been echoed by Senator Barbara Boxer, D-California, Representative Tim Bishop, D-New York, and Representative Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas.
Virtually all the major news stations have been implying these rallies are “orchestrated.” CBS Evening News correspondent Ben Tracy tried linking protesters to conservative groups - supposedly suggesting something ominous. Most people can sense these are grassroots gatherings by concerned citizens who are fed up with government meddling and abuses of power. But even if some rallies were organized by conservative groups, what difference would it make. Were no protests during the last eight years ever organized by liberal groups? Never did the establishment media try suggesting that anti-war, environmental, or pro-illegal immigration protests were staged or backed by some big lobbyist. The media (and politicians) should spend more time honestly covering the issues rather than trying to discredit opponents with baseless allegations and sinister innuendo.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused protesters of “drowning out opposing views” and being “un-American.” Interestingly enough, this is exactly what happens on college campuses when a conservative speaker is invited to give a talk. Pelosi should travel around to our institutions of ‘higher’ learning and express her sentiment there instead. It’s amusing to hear a far-lefty accuse someone of being ‘un-American’, while she works to undermine our nation’s principles and values.
The president has even said that patriotic Americans should shut up and accept what is perceived (legitimately) as a creeping despotism by the Obama administration. As Elusive Wapiti writes:
Added to this, I give you his [Obama's] “snitch on your neighbor site“, the advice his administration gives Democrat lawgivers to “punch…back twice as hard” at those illegitimate protesters said to dress like Hitler and who dare to speak up against the party line at their town hall meetings. One gets the distinct impression that the administration has a bit of a superiority complex going, and us serfs dare not object to the medicine that is being prescribed to us because we don’t know what’s best for us…yet they, our intellectual and moral betters, do.
Liberals are frantically scraping the “Dissent is the highest form of Patriotism” bumper stickers off their hybrids.
