Since the mainstream media has pretty much given only a positive, lop-sided presentation of Obama’s first 100 days in office, it’s only fair to balance that non-stop positive coverage with some fair criticisms that have been ignored by the MSM. After all, Obama is increasing the size, power, and cost of the federal government in ways never before imagined in our history.
The Democrats and those in the media complained about Bush’s budget deficit, but they must have all been disingenuous, because Obama’s deficit will triple or quadruple that of Bush’s. For perspective, Obama will create more national debt than every other president combined since George Washington. This deficit spending is under the ruse of a stimulus, but it will do nothing to address the underlying financial troubles that began with the mortgage meltdown. Deficit spending combined with the Federal Reserve pumping more money will probably lead to stagflation.
Obama campaigned against earmarks during the election, but when it came time to stand by what he said, he broke his word. Over 9,000 wasteful earmarks in the federal budget, the second highest in history. They may be relatively small as a percentage compared to the overall budget, but that is beside the point. He campaigned against pork and earmarks, and then signed bills with both.
Then there are the bailouts. Basically, the message is you are too big to fail, so here is a bunch of taxpayers’ money. No need to run your companies efficiently and sensibly, there is always a handout around the corner should you screw up. Not only that, but the vast majority of the spending is undisclosed. Obama says he doesn’t want government to be running things in the private sector, but then he effectively fires the CEO of General Motors. He should instead be pushing for the elimination of the auto unions and their corrupt bosses, but that would be hurting a big supporter of his, so he won’t do that. In fact, Obama will be dropping the Bush era disclosure requirements for union finances.
Obama and the Democrats’ wasteful pork spending will certainly lead to higher taxes for everyone. First of all, Obama will let the Bush tax cuts expire, which means tax increases for everyone. They like to claim only those earning over $250,000 will see an increase in taxes, but this is a lie. It is mathematically impossible for massive new spending to be paid for by just 1-2% of the entire population. Additionally, when you raise taxes on businesses it is ultimately paid for by everyone, including the poor, in higher prices for goods and services. The more the government taxes businesses and creates a hostile business environment, the more the average person suffers.
The fanciful claim that 95% of people are going to get a tax cut is a cleaver deception. Considering that around 35% of federal taxpayers pay nothing in income tax, it is then impossible to give 95% a tax cut. How can you give a tax cut to someone who pays nothing to begin with? This is the oft-repeated lie from Obama and his supporters. Basically they are getting money for nothing; redistribution if you will.
The 1996 welfare reform that decreased the welfare rolls and put more people to work, was ended with the passage of the so-called stimulus. Now, the more people states can put onto welfare, the more federal tax dollars they get. The simple concept, that whatever you subsidize you get more of, and whatever you tax you get less of, the Democrats have trouble grasping. Welfare rolls will certainly increase under Obama.
President Obama is also dismantling the protections that have kept America safe since 9/11 and is essentially returning the country to a pre-9/11 condition. Huge military cutbacks are in the works; bringing America’s military back to a pre-world war two level. Captured terrorists are treated even better than under Bush, with Obama banning the harmless but useful tool of waterboarding.
Releasing CIA interrogation documents only hurts America, as captured terrorists will now have a better idea of what to expect. And it is a really bad idea to even consider prosecuting CIA interrogators and officials from the previous administration. What will future interrogators think the next time they are given the task of extracting information from a captured terrorist? Will they even try to interrogate for fear of future prosecution? And setting a bad precedent in going after the previous administration for policy differences will not keep America safe. Remember, if you go after Bush officials, some day a future administration may come after yours.
Obama traveling around the world bashing America and blaming the U.S. for most of the world’s problems only emboldens our enemies. The new Department of Homeland Security now uses politically correct terminology, which will do nothing but further push America into a dangerous pre-9/11 mindset. Obama’s DHS also insulted and used the government for a sweeping attack against conservatives and returning war veterans, by claiming they were threats to America. Perhaps Obama should look in the mirror.
The Obama administration is pushing forward with nationalizing the health care system, which is guaranteed to make us all sick. Imagine for a moment a government agency like the DMV running a hospital. There will be long lines and waiting periods for treatment, assuming you don’t die before getting treatment. There will be shortages and the resulting rationing that will follow. New innovations and drug development will slow or stop altogether. However, Obama and the super rich like him will always have special options and first class treatment that the rest of us will never have.
Obama supporters tend to be very defensive of the president and will say anything to make excuses for his poor decisions or irresponsible actions. Is this because they have invested so much emotional energy into the symbolism Obama represents? I understand that when you really like someone, for whatever reason, you make excuses for that person. But regardless of personal feelings, people should be able to objectively critique a president’s policies, words, and actions. After 100 days, President Obama has not fared as well as the mainstream media would have us believe.
