South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” after Obama had talked about illegal aliens not receiving taxpayer-funded medical coverage (even though they already do in many ways). The media is hyping his outburst as something unusual that will unify Democrats around Obamacare, but Democrats routinely had similar outbursts during the Bush years. But unlike outbursts of the past, Rep. Wilson was correct in calling the president out as a liar for what Obama and the Democrats are telling America.

Even when Obama prefaces a statement with “let me be perfectly clear,” he then goes on to be perfectly vague. The Democrats will not positively say that illegal aliens will not be covered, because they know they will be covered under a taxpayer-funded plan. Plus the government plan will take years to fully kick in, and by then everyone will have forgotten it, so why would they risk damaging their position within the Hispanic community? It’s not about what’s best for America with those in Washington, it’s about getting and keeping power for themselves.

As Ann Coulter rightly pointed out:

But unless the various government bureaucracies dispensing health care are specifically required by law to ask about citizenship status, illegals will be covered. We can’t even get employers and police to inquire about citizenship status, but liberals assure us that doctors will?

And by the way - as with the abortion exclusion - the Democrats expressly rejected amendments that would have required proof of residency status to receive national health care.

Still not convinced? Day after day, The New York Times has been neurotically asserting that national health care won’t cover illegal aliens (without ever explaining how precisely it will exclude illegal aliens).

It is absolutely true that the president and the Democrats are lying through their teeth to the American people when it comes to illegal aliens and government-run medical care.

Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said after the president’s speech: “At times, I found his tone to be overly combative and believe he behaved in a manner beneath the dignity of the office. I fear his speech tonight has made it more difficult - not less - to find common ground.” But Obama’s tone and attitude are exactly the same as it has always been - that of an arrogant divider.
