obama cairo egypt speech 150x150 NYC Bombing: Obama Tries to Take Credit Where it isn’t Due

In what sounded like an attempt to take credit for the botched NYC bombing, President Obama inelegantly said, “…but once again an attempted attack has been [awkward pause] failed.”

The only reason the attack failed was due to the ineptness of Faisal Shahzad. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the Obama administration’s policies or that of Janet Napolitano’s DHS. The president later remarked that the authorities “may have saved hundreds of lives.” The authorities only apprehended the man before he left the country; they did not ’save’ lives. It was luck that saved lives.

Similarly, following the attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest Flight 253, Napolitano had proudly proclaimed that the “system worked.” There was no system that worked in that case either; it was passengers who jumped the terrorist before he could blow the plane up. Again, luck.

Since this administration refuses to take terrorism seriously (i.e. “overseas contingency operations” and “man-caused disasters”), how much longer can the American people rely on luck?
