Common sense seems to be getting less and less common these days, so I started this blog. The National Scene is currently a one-man operation, me (SteveK). My purpose is to try to change some hearts and minds in a country that desperately needs to get back to traditional American values and principles.
I love reading and probably have read enough books to fill a small library, as well as countless articles. I research my topics as well as I can, given my free time, and try to present an honest and clear explanation of what’s happening in the national scene. Yes, it is just my opinion and I don’t try to pretend otherwise.
Like many people, I used to be a pretty liberal person right out of college. I believed most of the ideas modern liberals subscribe to. It was the standard narratives of America being a bad place, racism, sexism, inequality, oppression, etc. etc. I believed in most of it, except one. I used to shoot guns fairly regularly with a best friend from childhood whose father was a police officer and would take us target shooting in the mountains. So whenever the discussion with the liberals around me turned to guns, I always had to correct them, because I heard so much misinformation and outright lies. That got me to thinking. If they are wrong about guns, what else could they be wrong about? What else in my education was biased, misrepresented, and untrue? I started voraciously reading books that offered an opposing point of view from the dominant one on campus. So my journey from liberalism to conservatism started once I decided to read and study topics on my own.
I would like to get extra contributors or authors on board. If you are interested please send an email via the contact form. It’s okay if you already have your own blog and/or post elsewhere. The more the merrier.
